Lights shine brighest in the dark ...

The Bright Lands are a strange mix of hope and fatalism. The world was made from whimsy and will as easily be snuffed when the whimsy is no longer worth while. The majority of Bright Landers live with the knowledge that a sedate life is a blessed life, that drawing attention to themselves runs the risk of destroying everything they and theirs have ever worked for.

I decided to try writing a story that was born more from the background that I developed than through pure, spontaneous imagination. Thank David & Leigh Eddings for the concept. I'm a terrible fan of theirs and, while reading the "how it came about" article they wrote for the Belgariad series, I was impressed with the idea that they wrote the background before they wrote the story.
