Growing Up

The lightening flashes across the sky,
Illuminating the scenery, but blinding the eye.
Trees sweep by as the engine roars
"Once upon a time" we left among the stars.
Peace and innocence seem so far away
And now it's a struggle to live from day to day

We fight the good fight but so many fall along the way
Wondering where they will, doing what they may
No one does what they can, afraid of what it brings
It seems we're all afraid of so many, many things

So much of our innocence appeared to be a lie
Uncovered as our ignorance began to slide
We were ignorant of the depths love holds
And the more knowledge we gain the more people fold

Love has its kindness, its tender moments
But like well used armor, it gathers its dents
And each of those dents brings forth a scream
Love is made of so many, many things

So many things that we're afraid of
Rage, Ecstasy, Pain, Grief
These are just some
Ingredients in Love.
