Autumn leaves are falling …
Autumn leaves are falling
Winter claims the land
Spring seems so far away
Yet there are no idle hands
So hard to hold a dollar
And so easy to pinch a penny
No time for thought or planning
And our liabilities are heavy
Burdens all around us
Burdens all before us
The road less traveled seems so hard
But the common path is a forest
So many get-rich schemes
So few who understand the risk
So few who have the discipline
So many who tisk-tisk
So many miss their chances
With their focus on despair
The American Dream seems so far off
With fewer finding the way there
But Winter is the first season,
The fallow time before the sowing
And tightened belts scream to reap now
As if you could reap a harvest before hoeing.
Work hard, go to college, get a good job
Is the mantra of the poor
While the mantra of the rich
Is build your own damned door.
Life pushes us in different directions
But you have the ability to choose your way
Push back and squander your resources
Or listen to what life has to say.
